Alternative Funeral Venues in Melbourne, Victoria

As a professional funeral celebrant and director in Melbourne, I have attended hundreds of funerals in conventional chapels within memorial parks, where the atmosphere is ‘beige’ at best.

So it’s no wonder that when I come across a family that plans to hold the send-off for their person in a funeral venue that means something to them, whether it be that they were involved in the place as part of their life, or it’s just a damn fine venue, I feel inspired and add the place to my ‘mental list’.

Well today, I have put that mental list into print and am thrilled to share with you some of the best equipped, wheelchair-accessible, personable, stunning and unique venues for a kick-arse funeral or memorial service in Melbourne that makes you go,
“Hell yeah, this is how we want to remember our person!”

Broader Options

Local RSL Clubs

Don’t overlook your local RSL (Returned and Services League) clubs when considering alternative venues for your funeral service
These community hubs often have spacious function rooms and a touch of old-world charm that adds a unique character to the event.

Local RSL clubs are known for their warm and welcoming atmosphere, and play an important role in supporting veterans and the local community.
Celebrating the life of your person in an RSL club also contributes to a meaningful cause, win/win!

I highly recommend St Kilda RSL on Acland Street. Awesome bay views and easy wheelchair access!

Surf Clubs

For those who’s person had a special connection to the ocean and the beach, surf clubs offer a perfect and affordable choice for a non-traditional funeral service
Imagine bidding farewell to your person with the crashing waves as a backdrop, the salty breeze in the air, and the sound of seagulls in the distance.

Surf clubs capture the essence of the ocean spirit that your person cherished whilst maintaining an accessible and relaxed atmosphere.

Sports Clubs – (Bowls, Footy, Golf, Tennis, etc.)

If your person was particularly sporty, or already a member of a club, consider celebrating their life at a venue that reflects their athletic spirit.
The funeral or memorial service is going to feel so much more personalised and with a sense of coming home, at the end of their life.

So there you have it, my top suggestions for alternative funeral venues in Melbourne, Victoria so don’t be afraid to unleash your creativity and give your person the send-off they deserve!

Make sure you consider their personality, interests and passions and the perfect venue will surely present itself.

Embrace the non-traditional and unconventional and choose somewhere that reflects their life and says: ‘this place screams our person!!!!’

I hope this list helps inspire, encourage and give you the confidence to step outside the box!
